"The 4m length makes laying quick - it's brilliant"

James Hardie Concrete Pipes is a division of James Hardie Australia Pty Ltd ABN 12 084 635 558 which is part of the James Hardie business which operates a global business across multiple countries. James Hardie is a world leader in fibre cement technology. We have operations in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. We are also expanding into Asia, with a manufacturing plant in the Philippines, and into Europe, with operations that have their headquarters in Amsterdam. In every country in which we operate, our goal is to remain at the forefront of the fibre cement industry, capitalizing on our global leadership in products, manufacturing and technology. Innovation is vital to maintaining our
pre-eminent position and we invest heavily in research and development, with a special emphasis on product quality and production efficiency.
James Hardie recognise that drainage design benefits from the integration of quality componentry to provide a versatile and cost effective solution. This has been the driving force behind the intensive development of James Hardie's range of pipes, fittings, pit systems, stormwater treatment devices, and product innovations such as the SlimDrain™ drainage system, HardieAquifer™ drainage system and median barrier. This comprehensive range enables designers to employ the cost benefits and performance levels of fibre reinforced concrete throughout stormwater drainage projects.
The inherent properties of fibre cement technology provides a relatively lightweight pipe composition with benefits recognised during transport and installation. At about half the weight per metre of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) pipe, 4m long HardiePipe™ concrete pipes are generally no heavier than a 2.44m length of steel reinforced concrete pipe. These benefits translate to easier handling and increased efficiency during installation.
HardiePipe™ concrete pipes are recognised for their impressive strength capacity. In accordance with AS4139, we adopt a conservative approach where the design load of fully saturated HardiePipe™ concrete pipes is at least the same as that for dry SRC pipe manufactured in accordance with AS4058. This conservative approach, combined with the elasticity of HardiePipe™ concrete pipes under loads, reduces the risk of pipe cracking.
HardiePipe™ concrete pipes are manufactured in standard 4m lengths, as opposed to the standard 2.44m lengths of SRC pipes. The longer lengths of HardiePipe™ concrete pipes reduce the number of laying operations to provide significant savings. This is demonstrated in a straight 100m run which would require only 25 lengths of HardiePipe™ concrete pipes instead of 40 lengths of SRC pipe.
Abrasion resistance of drainage pipes is a consideration for some authorities due to the topography of their area.
In over 20 years since their introduction, HardiePipe™ concrete pipes have proved themselves to be able to master a wide variety of installation conditions. Remember that HardiePipe™ concrete pipes do not contain steel reinforcement, which has an increased risk of corrosion. The autoclaved chemical structure of HardiePipe™ concrete pipes ensures good resistance to saltwater and acidic soil attack and is therefore ideal for saltwater or marine environment applications. Autoclaving provides the necessary temperature and pressure conditions for the ground sand to react with the cement to create an advanced calcium silicate hydrate structure, with significantly reduced free lime content. The autoclave cement hydration products are different from those obtained in the normal concrete curing process. Autoclaved cement pipes are highly resistant to attack from neutral sulphates and naturally occurring ground waters, and therefore additional pipe protection is not required (except in extremely acidic ground conditions where the pH is less than 4.5). Autoclaving also gives the benefit of high early strength.
The increasing use of HardiePipe™ concrete pipes and accessories in non-typical industry applications demonstrates the true versatility of James Hardie's fire reinforced concrete pipe products. James Hardie's commitment to innovation and design has produced an extensive range of HardiePipe™ concrete pipes products where water management requires not only the 'light, strong, long' characteristics of fibre reinforce concrete but unique project solutions.
James Hardie is a world leader in fibre cement, developing quality, engineered solutions for building and drainage applications.
With our ongoing commitment to the development and integration of our fibre cement technology, James Hardie has emerged as one of the most progressive, innovative companies across the globe. The James Hardie product range combines high quality, cost effective building systems for residential and commercial buildings, and high performance pipeline products for above and below ground stormwater drainage applications. The benefits inherent in fibre cement continue to deliver real value to clients throughout design, installation, and operation.Drainage Solutions
