The launch of the pre-cast pit range from James Hardie has increased the level of performance and
versatility available from pit systems. The range offers a wide variety of componentry to deliver a
complete system, with some outstanding benefits for designers and installers alike.
The FlexiPit™ System is made from reinforced pre-cast concrete, the base unit incorporating a round internal structure with a floor, and four knockouts for pipe entries. The system combines three main components with a pit unit at the base, an HardiPipeTM pipe riser to bring the unit to surface level, and a precast concrete grated top to suit traffic and surface conditions. The versatility of this design means that each of these items can be varied to suit individual project needs.
The FlexiPit System can be used in any project where the size of the pit is appropriate for the inlet
and outlet pipe sizes and the capacity required. Typically, the FlexiPit System is used in commercial,
industrial and multi-residential projects or in inter-allotment, parkland, median or easement drainage.
The FlexiPit System has been widely accepted and successfully installed across Australia in road,
subdivision and commercial projects. The FlexiPit System meets the tough standards of state road
authorities and is the product of choice for civil contractors, councils, plumbers and drainers.
The FlexiPit System provides great value to engineers and asset owners:
• The internal circular design delivers impressive hydraulic performance
• The pit design minimizes the amount of debris which can accumulate in pit corners.
• The FlexiPit System delivers significant construction load strength. The design creates ‘columns’
of concrete either side of the pipe penetrations so that even when the maximum pipe size is
installed, the pit will retain its structural integrity.
The FlexiPit System provides many cost saving benefits to contractors:
• The ability to use HardiPipeTM pipe for the pit riser means risers are easily cut on site. There is no need to
pre-order a range of risers to suit the project, and no need to cut or break pre-cast risers or pour
sections in-situ.
• When you use HardiPipeTM pipes for risers it can also reduce your material wastage if you use offcuts.
The ability to modify the depth to invert provides improved accuracy from surface level to invert.
FRC pipe risers means that you have exact control over finished surface level.
• There is unique flexibility in the pit placement; vertical alignment of the pit body to the pit top is
not critical. The pit can be placed to best suit the inlet and outlet pipes, and the top section can
be rotated on the riser at finished surface to align with the kerb or property boundary etc.
• There is a wide range of pit ‘tops’ available to suit individual project applications (refer to product
range on page 24).
