Drainage Capacity

SlimDrain™ Drainage System has excellent hydraulic performance and will typically operate as a weir in most flow situations, changing to orifice flow as the depth of flow increases. The following equations and blockage factor recommendation are derived from the Qld Urban Drainage Manual Vol. 1 2nd Ed 2007.

Q = SlimDrain™ inlet flow per linear metre

Q (weir) = 1.66 x BF x h3/2

NOTE: Single side flow is assumed, for applications where flow will be received from both sides of the drainage grate, the overall Q weir will be double.

Q (orifice) = 0.1014 x BF x h1/2

Where:
BF = blockage factor (0.5 in most cases)
h = overall depth of flow

The smooth, hydraulically efficient pipe allows the system to be self-cleansing at low flow velocities, reducing maintenance and disruption to traffic. The range of James Hardie fittings can be used to incorporate flushing and inspection points if desired.

Utilising the range of grate depths available, this allows the designer to create a low maintenance drainage system at a range of pipe depths.

There are a number of commercially available hydraulic software programs to design the length of the SlimDrain™ Drainage System to suit individual site parameters.

Achieving high design flows even under high blockage situations, the SlimDrain™ Drainage System provides peace of mind to the road designer that surface water ponding and high flow widths will be avoided.

About Us.

James Hardie is a world leader in fibre cement, developing quality, engineered solutions for building and drainage applications.

With our ongoing commitment to the development and integration of our fibre cement technology, James Hardie has emerged as one of the most progressive, innovative companies across the globe. The James Hardie product range combines high quality, cost effective building systems for residential and commercial buildings, and high performance pipeline products for above and below ground stormwater drainage applications. The benefits inherent in fibre cement continue to deliver real value to clients throughout design, installation, and operation.

Drainage Solutions

James Hardie Pipes recognise that drainage design benefits from the integration of quality componentry to provide a versatile and cost effective solution. This has been the driving force behind the intensive development of James Hardie's range of pipes, fittings, pit systems, stormwater treatment devices, and product innovations such as the SlimDrainT pavement system, slotted pipe system and median barrier. This comprehensive range enables designers to employ the cost benefits and performance levels of fibre reinforced concrete throughout stormwater drainage projects.
